"80Kgs" by James on 2008-08-31 04:01:33

Question:  Hi Nick, your weight looks to have settled at 80Kgs. Is this far from your ideal?

My Answer:   Hi James, I'm not happy with my weight settling at 80 Kg. No matter how little I eat, or how healthily I eat, it doesn't budge... I think I'm not active enough. I'm going to to do more exercise to get rid of the fat. For my height (5'11") and frame, I should be about 75Kg, maximum. I will get there soon! My best, Nick

"pH and Cancer Growth" by Estee on 2008-08-04 19:14:53

Question:  Hi Nick~ First, I want to say thank you for being such a tremendous source of inspiration to me and my family. I honor you for your convictions and great contribution with this website. My question is regarding urine pH and cancer growth. I was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer and had a hysterectomy per my doctor's treatment. It was not recommended that I have chemo or radiation so I continued my lifestyle normally. Unfortunately, the cancer returned in a small area on the vaginal walls - at it was labled squamous, invasive cells. At this point I was exposed to Dr. Young's research and knowledge and like you, committed to a cleanse and 100% alkaline diet and lifestyle. I use powdered greens, ionized water, oils and sunstantial salts in addition to other supplements. As a result, I have maintained urine pH of 8.0 for a period over 8 months and my determination led me to believe the cancerous cells would not grow - eventually crystallizing and then releasing from my tissue. Last week I had a visual exam by my physician and he informed me that the cancerous tissue had grown from 1 centimeter to 3 centimeters. This has me completely confused since I have been following the program religiously. The cells are not encapsulated in a tumor like yours, so it's possible that the spoiling of cells continue beneath the visible surface. I don't know what to do at this point. Do you think it's possible that the invasive cells have come to the surface to be released? Unfortunately, there is no one in our area to handle a live blood analysis. As you can imagine, I'm highly discouraged but still want to believe in this program and remain hopeful. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Many continued blessings, Estee

My Answer:   Hi Estee, Thank you for your email. It makes me happy to hear that my website serves as a source of inspiration to the many people I receive emails from daily. In answer to your question, I believe that the process takes a long time. There really is no quick fix. If I were in your shoes, I would believe that what is happening is part of the process and that my body, using its innate wisdom, is doing what it needs to do to heal itself. I believe that you need to keep doing whatever you can to support your body. What are you doing besides diet and supplementation? Are you exercising (I know I don't exercise enough)? Are you getting regular sunlight? Are you filling your day with things that make you happy? Are you interacting with as many friends and loved ones every day? Do you have faith that you are getting better every day? You need to truly believe this. What else can you do? I think it's very important that you talk to Dr Young or one of his trained microscopists. If it's not possible to talk to Dr Young, why don't you find out if there is a microscopist in an area near you? It will be worth the trip every few months. When I used to live in Ireland, I flew to London every 3 months for a blood analysis and consultation. Keep the faith and believe that you are healing. If there's anything more I can do to help, please let me know. My best, Nick

"pH over 8.0" by James on 2008-07-17 23:58:21

Question:  Hi Nick, Is there anything to be gained by using salts to take your urine pH above 8.0? Is it a simple case that if your urine pH is over 7.0 then your body has all the alkalinity it needs and is just expelling the excess? Would would your ideal urine pH reading be at this point in time be? Thanks.

My Answer:   Hi James, I believe that when one is in healing mode, there is a lot to be gained by raising the urine pH to 8 and beyond. I've heard Dr Young talking about taking it over 9 or 10 if you have cancer. Much of it has to do with giving your body the alkalinity it needs to buffer acids and much has to do with cancer cells not being able to survive. I've read quite a bit about how much quicker they "die" if the fluids around them are high in pH. Apparently, there is a correlation between pH and how long it takes for cancer cells to be destroyed. My best, Nick

"PH of water" by Carlos on 2008-07-06 12:08:32

Question:  I see that you add ph drops to all your water. I use Dr. Young's Jupiter water ionizer - do I still have to add the drops? CR

My Answer:   I will be buying an ionizer soon, but I've been travelling and moving around a lot the last few years. As soon as I settle, I will definitely get an ionizer. I think ionized water is perfectly structured and doesn't need pH drops.

"bladder healing" by madeline on 2008-06-24 11:06:50

Question:  Hi Can a bladder heal it's self. my sister has cancer. she had a stint shift and it tore her bladder. She has a catherter in her virginia now urine still leaks out. Will the bladder ever heal. Thank You madeline

My Answer:   Hi Madeline, I believe so, although I don't know for sure in your sister's situation. I wish her the best. My best, Nick

"Omega 3-6-9" by Sherri on 2008-06-23 12:11:40

Question:  Hi Nick - Would you give us a re-cap of the role Omega 3-6-9 supplements and oils play in our health? Best to you! Sherri

My Answer:   Hi Sherri, The EFAs are essential nutrients that your body requires, but is unable to make. Therefore, we must consume them (by eating the right grains/seeds, adding the right oils to our food, and/or through supplements). The benefits are enormous. The expert I most respect in this arena is Udo Erasmus. If you haven't already, I strongly suggest you read his book (there's a link to it on my books page) and visit his site at www.udoerasmus.com. I couldn't do the subject justice, but the benefits of the essential fatty acids include increasing metabolism, they are alkalizing (because of their chemical structure), and certain sources of Omega 3 have been shown to reduce tumours. Udo Erasmus' book (Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill) is one of the best books I've read on nutrition, not just on fats and oils. I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in health and nutrition. Take care, Nick

"Whole Grains" by Francisco on 2008-06-20 15:15:58

Question:  When Dr. Young recommends the consumption of whole grains, which ones is he specifically referring to? I thought grains were considered acidic.

My Answer:   Hi Francisco, Not all whole grains are acidic. Also, whole grains provide numerous health benefits. For one, fresh whole grains contain the best source of essential oils that our bodies need. To see schedules of acidifying and alkalizing grains, have a look at the following URLs... http://www.phmiracleliving.com/alkaline-foods.htm http://www.ph-balance-diet.com/phoffoods.htm#grain My best, Nick

"Flax & Hemp" by James on 2008-06-19 02:04:42

Question:  Hi Nick, How much Flax & Hemp etc oil do you aim to take on a good day? I've read elsewhere suggestions that 100ml is good to aim for. Thanks

My Answer:   Hi James, I take about 4000mg of each when travelling. When I'm at home, I quite easily have about 100ml per day. I use them both in my salad dressings. My best, Nick

"Weight" by Christine on 2008-06-15 18:46:24

Question:  I got a lot out of the subject of weight gain. Why don't you drink the greens? I have had breast cancer 2x and if they would of told me rad. only once I would of had the mas. My cousin swears by the greens she has been cancer free for two years after 4 different cancers

My Answer:   Hi Christine, I took the greens for a long time. They served me well at a time when I wasn't fully on the program. I am a big believer that supplements are just that - supplements. They are not meant to replace the nutrients one can and should get from food, but supplement those that one can't (or doesn't) get from food. My diet now comprises about 80% raw greens, which I believe gives me all the chlorophyll I need. I don't think I need a green supplement. The only supplements I take now are sodium bicarbonate and the EFAs. I take the sodium bicarbonate because I don't get it from food and because I had one parotid gland removed (which should make sodium bicarbonate and mix it with the food before swallowing). I take the EFAs when I'm travelling. When I'm at home, I always put Flax and Hemp oil in my salad dressings and I don't need to take EFA supplements. My best, Nick

"Thank you & MMS" by Jodi on 2008-06-05 09:18:11

Question:  Hi Nick, Thanks very much for sharing all of the information about your alkakine diet/Ph Miracle practices and for your positive energy! I look forward to learning more about your experiences and wish you well. I have just come across the following item and it looks very interesting. Are you familiar with MMS? It seems like it might be a powerful "O" component in the COWS approach. http://miraclemineral.org/index.php http://mmsmiracle.com/about/http://mmsmiracle.com/about/ http://phaelosopher.wordpress.com/2007/09/09/no-miracle-just-wonderful-chemistry/ Best, Jodi

My Answer:   Hi Jodi, Thanks for your question. I haven't come across MMS yet, but I will look into it. My best, Nick

"How long?" by Francisco on 2008-06-04 00:27:53

Question:  How long before you can say "I am cancer free!!!"? I know illnesses don't manifest overnight; the process of an acidic lifestyle which may have lead to disease may have begun years before. Neither does optimum health is an overnight experience; it can take months or years of an alkaline-lead way of living. So what do you think; when do you anticipate your cancer will no longer be detectable?

My Answer:   Thanks for your question, Francisco. I already say that I am cancer free. Why? Because I believe, like Dr Young does, that cancer is acid. My pH readings are alkaline, which means that my body is not in a cancerous state. Do I have some tumors? Yes, I may have some tumors in my bladder, which formed to encapsulate spoiling cells, to protect the surrounding healthy cells. When my body knows that it is time, the tumors will crystallize and be eliminated. It will also stop forming tumors when there are no spoiling cells. I think the whole process will take a few years.

"pH Levels" by James on 2008-05-30 09:00:15

Question:  Hi Nick. It's been a while since I looked at your pH levels, they look to have improved recently. What are your thoughts on your pH readings?

My Answer:   Hi James, I recently moved to a small little island in the Mediterranean and changed my lifestyle. I think the simpler life, being around friends and family, the sun, and so on, have made all the difference. I haven't changed anything else, really. My best, Nick

"just stopping by to check in on you" by Cindy on 2008-05-25 07:13:42

Question:  and tell you how inspirational I continue to find your journey. My husband has been told that chemotherapy is purely palliative at this point and that he probably has 2-5 years to live. Yet, he continues to struggle with the decision to stick with conventional treatment to avoid rocking the boat and taking a risk on something "statistically unproven" as his oncologist remarked at our last session. Anyway, I check in on you from time to time and I appreciate your courage and consistency so much. You are a testament to holistic healing and belief in the body's ability to repair itself. Modern medicine and our cultural norms are so far askew... I hope your story touches more and more people and makes a difference.

My Answer:   Hi Cindy, Thank for writing to me. I'm sorry to hear about your husband's prognosis. I truly hope he finds the right path to health. I can completely related to his struggle with the decision between conventional medicine and natural healing. It's not an easy decision at all. I struggled with it for a long time. The doctors also gave me the same story about what I'm doing being "statistically unproven". My retort was "what percentage of people with cancer survive with the cut, burn, and poison approach?" and "why is it that a few decades ago 1 in 30 people died of cancer and today, it's 1 in 3?" Also, what results did the billions spent on "America's war on cancer" bring? The only statistical proof I see is that the medical establishment has absolutely no clue when it comes to curing cancer. They sooner the profit motive disappears from the healing "sciences" and holistic healing is thoroughly explored and embraced, the better off the human race will be. I'm ranting, aren't I? :-). I could go on and on about this, but I won't... Please keep me posted on your husband's progress. I wish you both all the strength and wisdom you need to get through this. My best, Nick

"Colon cancer" by Joy on 2008-05-18 17:06:05

Question:  What is the #1 food I should not eat to avoid colon cancer? I turned 50 this year and my doctor wants me to have a colonoscopy. A friend of mine had her colon punctured this way. What do you think? I realize you cannot give me medical advice, but what is your opinion? Thanks Joy

My Answer:   Hi Joy, I believe that you need to avoid anything that comes from an animal, excluding some fish from time to time. That includes meat, dairy, eggs, and so on. In addition to that, refined sugar and flour (or anything refined for that matter) is bad. There's obviously more you need to give up (including alcohol, cigarettes, other acidic foods and drinks, etc), but I think animal products are the worst offender. My best, Nick

"Omega 3-6-9" by Sherri on 2008-05-12 13:44:55

Question:  Hi Nick! I am working on minimizing and transitioning my supplements to a more economical level. I have been taking 4 Omega 3 and 4 Omega 6 caps per day as recommended after medical evaluation. These supplements are pretty spendy. I'm hoping I'll be able to cut back as I continue to alkalize. What is your philsophy about the type and quantity of Omega 3-6-9 supplements that you take currently and plan to take in the future? Have you found economical forms/brands to use? I would also be interested to know your thoughts about multivitamins with minerals. Thanks and my best to you. Sherri

My Answer:   Hi Sherri, I currently take 2 EFA capsules, 3 times per day. They're all quite expensive. I also try to eat the foods, seeds, nuts, and so on that contain EFAs. When I'm home, I keep bottles of hemp and flax oil in the fridge and use them in my salads and on my vegetables (after they've been steamed). I don't take multivitamins /minerals. I try to ensure that I get all the essential vitamins and minerals from whole foods. This philosophy applies to all supplements. My best, Nick

"Alkalosis" by Francisco on 2008-05-03 22:55:23

Question:  Hello Nick, it's me again with another question. How do you keep yourself from coming down with Alkalosis? I have observed on your daily log that you consume some acid-forming foods four days a week approximately; those are fish(Salmon and Tuna) and strawberries. Sometimes I see that you eat fish twice in a day. By eating these acidic foods I just mentioned, is how you stay away from developing alkalosis? Thank you again for all your hard work.

My Answer:   Hi Francisco, Firstly, I usually have fish two to three times per month, except when I'm travelling, when I have it more often. This is because I often get invited to people's homes and they seem to feel serving me a salad is not feeding me :-/. Secondly, when I do have fish, it usually comprises about 10-20% of my meal. I have mostly salad and vegetables, which mean my meals are 80% to 90% alkaline. As for strawberries, I make sure I have one or two servings of berries per week. I don't have much other fruit (except for grapefruit and sometimes watermelon, which aren't acidifying). These fruits don't seem to affect my pH. I believe that the occasional fish and fruits help ensure that I am getting a wide variety of the essential nutrients that my body needs. That said, I do obviously sometimes have more acidic food than I should. When I return to a super-healthy (mostly raw) diet, my pH drops for about a day or two (without any symptoms) and then jumps right back up where it should be. I believe that my body has become very effecient at dealing with excess acids. My best, Nick

"Supplements" by Sherri on 2008-05-03 16:05:04

Question:  Hi Nick! Your web site continues to be an inspiration to me. Lately I have appreciated viewing your diet. I have read many books on alkaline diets and would love to prepare many of the wonderful and varied recipes I have found. But the reality for me at this time is that I simply don't have time. I work full time and have a household run and a social network that I love. It has been very helpful to know that you are doing well with what seems like a very simple diet. I'm trying that myself presently and so far, so good. I have also researched much about supplements and have had many lab tests to check various systems in my body with the aim of introducing appropriate supplements to make improvements in systems that are challenged. I have been very faithful about taking all supplements that have been recommended for me by my (shall we use the term) "complementary" health care providers. The only problem is that I can no longer afford to purchase all of these many supplements. I've read some of the posts on your site regarding supplements. At this point, I'm trying to figure out an effective, minimalistic supplement approach. I don't yet check my pH. I've been transitioning to an alkaline diet for about 11 months now and my main focus has been to find out if I can "do" an alkaline diet. So far, so good. I'm not perfect yet, by far, but I think I can do this, and I am feeling better. As I mentioned in an earlier communication, I don't have cancer, but I do have irritable bowel syndrome, degenerative disc disease, and some connective tissue issues. It sounds to me like you are on a budget as well. I won't be able to buy a water alkalizer machine at this time, and very much appreciate your recommendation of Essentia water. It is readily available in Portland Oregon, where I live. I would appreciate any comments you have about "alkaline on a budget". Thanks Nick. Best to you and I'm glad you are doing so well! Sherri

My Answer:   Hi Sherri, I have become very used to my simple diet (especially when I'm travelling). I eat raw salads mostly. I also steam and roast vegetables, which is quick and easy. Since I enjoy cooking, I do occasionally spend some time in the kitchen preparing something not-so-simple. For the most part, though, the simple foods are usually the healthiest. As for reducing supplementation, I believe very strongly in obtaining all our nutrients from whole foods, the way nature intended. I go out of my way to ensure that I get all the nutrients we need from food. I believe that if we eat as wide a variety as possible of organic vegetables and (not too acidic) fruit, as well as the occasional fish, we will get all the nutrients we need. I will eventually only take pHour salts and – when travelling – Omega 3-6-9 capsules (I don’t need this when at home, since I use hemp and flax oil on my salads and vegetables). I definitely am on a budget. At one point, I was spending over $1,000 per month on supplements, products, and so on. I was becoming stressed about the cost, as well as the amount of time it took to take all the supplements (and make sure I prepared well for trips). I believe that a simple life is part of the cure. My best, Nick

"MRI" by Francisco on 2008-05-03 01:10:33

Question:  How is it going Nick? I have a Cardiac MRI scheduled for June 9th. I am certain the doctor is going to want to inject contrast dye in me. So, here is the question; why do you prefer to not have any contrast dye injected in you when getting an MRI? Will the doctors still be able to obtain a clear picture without the use of contrast dyes? Looking forward to read your point of view.

My Answer:   Hi Francisco, I'm doing well, thanks. I've been travelling a lot the last few weeks and eating less than perfectly. I'm looking forward to going home and cleansing... The reason I did not allow the doctors to inject contrast dye into me is because it is acidic and unnatural. I am trying to keep my blood and body as pure as possible. I believe the images are clearer with contrast dye; however, the doctors were able to read the images quite well without the use of contrast dye. My best, Nick

"What if we don't have long?" by Tina on 2008-04-29 16:20:12

Question:  A week ago my husband was diagnosed with gliolastoma- a the worst of malignant brain tumors. Due to its size and position, operating is too risky. If we do nothing, they say it will be three months. With chemo and radiation, it will be nine months. I'm reading that the pH route could take months to have an effect. Is there a chance that it could work earlier, or don't we have long enough? He is also diabetic and has trouble tolerating fresh vegetables and fruits. It's difficult to find alkaline foods that won't upset his stomach. Can you offer any hope to us?

My Answer:   Hi Tina, I'm sorry about your husband's diagnosis. I haven't been in that position and I am not an expert. All I can do is tell you what I would do in your husband's situation... The very first thing I would do is talk to Dr Young on the phone and, preferably, go spend at least a week with him at his ranch in San Diego. I can put you in touch with Dr Young if you like. Obviously, if you do the above, Dr Young will tell you exactly what to do. If I couldn't go see Dr Young, or if it took some time to get there, I would... 1) Immediately start taking sodium bicarbonate (or phour salts, preferably) to start raising my pH. I would start with 1/2 a teaspoon in a glass of water 3 times per day and gradually increase it to a teaspoon in a glass of water 5 or 6 times a day (as much as is required to raise my urine pH over 8 - which I would start measuring right away). 2) I would start taking a good Omega 3-6-9 oil (Udo's Choice is good). I would also get a cold-pressed high quality Flax / Linseed oil and take twice the dosage recommended on the label. 3) I would get some liquid chlorophyll (Dr Young makes a good one) and start taking the maximum dosage. 4) I would start drinking 1 liter per 50 pounds of weight of alkaline water. I would either buy a water ionizer, or buy the best bottled water and add pH drops to it to structure it and raise its pH. 5) I would phase out all acidic foods and drinks very quickly and eat the alkalizing fruits and vegetables I can tolerate, initially. 6) My belief is that what you call an allergy to alkalizing foods is nothing more than a detox process, which will pass with time. Check with Dr Young on this, but I truly believe that if you start phasing in the alkaline foods, after the detox process, the upset stomach would pass. I would also rather have an upset stomach than a brain tumor... The sodium bicarbonate / pHour salts I mentioned above would help with the upset stomach. 7) I would not give up hope. I would dig deep (to my faith maybe) and find the strength to continue to live a happy, normal life. Getting stressed and obsessed about this cannot be healthy. I would go for walks in the sunshine daily, do the things I love, spend time with people that make me happy, and not allow anything to upset me. The above is a good start. I would definitely speak to Dr Young and get out to see him really soon. Let me know if you want me to speak to him and put you in touch with him. Please stay in touch and let me know how things progress. My best, Nick

"Dilated Cardiomyopathy" by Francisco on 2008-04-29 03:25:55

Question:  Good morning Nick! Have you heard, seen, or read about anyone reversing the health condition named "Dilated Cardiomyopathy" by improving the quality of their blood? Thanks in advance.

My Answer:   Hi Francisco, I haven't heard of anyone reversing that particular condition. I (like Dr Young)believe that since there is only one health, there is only one disease. The approach to health is the same, no matter what your condition is. There are times, of course, when medcine can deal with symptoms and crises. However, the only true path to health and cure is to ensure that you follow an alkaline diet and lifestyle and that you're getting the 50, or so, essential nutrients your body needs. My best, Nick

"Blood Pressure and Pulse..." by Francisco on 2008-04-27 22:33:08

Question:  Hi Nick! Do you also measure your blood pressure and heart rate? If you do, why is it important and where should the normal ranges be for a healthy person? If you don't measure them, why not? Thanks.

My Answer:   Hi Francisco, I do measure my heart rate and blood pressure. My heart rate ranges between 62-66 bpm. My blood pressure averages at about 12/8, which is in the normal range. This diet and lifestyle has improved absolutely every health metric I've measured. My best, Nick

My Answer:   Hi Jeanette, You're welcome :-). pHour salts are a combination of sodium bicarbonate, calcium bicarbonate, magnesium bicarbonate, and potassium bicarbonate. You can find out more about it at http://www.phmiracleliving.com/pHourSalts.htm. This product will do more to alkalize you than anything else. It was formulated by Dr Robert Young. It will get your pH over 7 very quickly! I think living clay is great. As you can see from my realtime food log (http://www.stopdoingcancer.com/natural-cancer-therapy-log-p.htm), I take Montmorillonite Clay daily. I hope that helps. Good luck! Nick

"Testing Ph" by Arrow on 2008-04-26 06:12:34

Question:  Hi Nick, Your site is really great! Just exceptional! Can you please tell me how you test your ph and how often do you do it? Thanks, Arrow

My Answer:   Hi Arrow, Thank you - a lot of work has gone into the site. I test my pH using a Hanna digtal pH meter. You can find it at... http://www.cutcat.com/item.php?item_id=274 I test my urine and saliva first thing in the morning and then once mid-day and again late afternoon. My best, Nick

"CALCIFICATION" by JEANETTE on 2008-04-25 13:30:28

Question:  MY MAMMOGRAMSHOWED THAT I HAVE CALCIFICATION IN MY BREAST. NOW I DO ALL OF THE ABOIVE WHICH MEANS I WAS TAKING MIRALE PH GREENS AND LIQUID THEN I SWITHC TO CORE VITAL AND ALZAER. WHEAT GRASS, OMEGA 3 , RED ROOT, LYMPHATIC, AND CHLORPHYLL AND HOST OF OTHER SUPPLEMENTS. I ALSO TAKE AND BATHE IN CLAY. I HAVE TO GO FOR A BIOSPY BUT I FEEL BETTER KNOWING THAT I AM ON THE RIGHT TRACK I AM GOING TO DO THE CLEANSE MY BLOOD WORK TEST IS FOR THE 3RD AND THE REMOVAL OF THE CALCIFICATION THE 14TH AND THE DYE THE 13TH. (BIOSPY) NEVERTHELESS I AM VERY NERVOUS BECAUSE I AM A NATURALIST I DONT LIKE MEDICINE. I ALSO TAKE VITAMI E, CHROMINUM,CRANBERRY EXTRACT, GREEN TEA,CINNAMON,BUT MOSTLY I DO THE GREENS. SO AM I ON THE RIGHT TRACK I DRINK A TABLESPOON A DAY. I FEEL GREAT

My Answer:   Hi Jeanette, It sounds like you're taking good supplements. I would add pHour salts (or sodium bicarbonate) and some of the other Omegas (EFAs). Are you eating mostly raw, chlorophyll-rich food and staying away from all acidic food? Chlorophyll-rich foods should be over 70% of your diet. Are you drinking lots of alkaline water every day? Are you getting sunlight and fresh air every day, and also exercising gently? Are you staying happy, excited, and positive most of the time? If you're doing all of the above, you're definitely on the right track. As you know, I have stopped going to doctors altogether, as everything they do will acidfy me. That's obviously your choice though... I'm not saying that's the right choice for you. Good luck, Nick

"Green Powder" by James on 2008-04-24 02:34:42

Question:  Hi Nick. Looking at your daily log, you look to be taking 1.5 teaspoons of Green Powder each day. Is that correct, or do you also add the powder to your water throughout the day? Thanks

My Answer:   Yes, James, I've reduced my green drink intake to 1.5 teaspoons of powder per day. I mix this in a 1.5 litre bottle of alkaline water with clay and sip it slowly throughout the day. One of the reasons I've reduced the amount f green drink I take is that I believe more in whole foods than supplements. I'm trying to get more and more of my nutrients from whole, preferably organic, food. Eventually, the only supplement I will take is pHour salts or sodium bicarbonate (because I had one of my parotid glands removed years ago, which means there is less sodium bicarbonate in my saliva than there should be). I will also take Omega 3-6-9 capsules when I travel (as I put flax and hemp oil on all my salads and vegetables when I'm home, so I don't need the capsules then).

"diagnosis" by Jerine on 2008-04-22 09:52:40

Question:  Thanks for responding to my first questions about the salts. I also noticed that your diagnosis went from Stage 1 to Stage 2. Is the MRI showing more involvement? How long have you been doing the alkalizing salts and special diet? Are you feeling like you are getting better?

My Answer:   Hi Jerine, Part of the change in diagnosis is that it is more difficult for doctors to stage the disease with MRI alone - that's why they insist that I have ongoing cystoscopies and bladder resections, which I resist (as well as any and all medical care). Even if the tumor has grown, I'm not too concerned, because I know that the purpose of the tumor is to encapsulate the "bad" cells to protect the healthy cells around them. When the tumor has done its job, it will crystallize, break down, and be eliminated. I've been on this program (strictly) for about 8-9 months. I believe it's going to take a few years for me to be totally cured, although I now believe I am cancer-free, despite the presence of a tumor. It took me decades to manifest the cancer - I can't expect it to disappear in a few months. In answer to your question, I feel better than I did in my 20s! I don't have the same symptoms I had when I was diagnosed. For instance, I never have headaches, I have boundless energy, I don't pass urine in my blood, I don't have the strange sensation I used to have in my bladder area, and so on. My best, Nick

"pHour salts / Sodium bicarbonate" by Jerine on 2008-04-21 13:45:58

Question:  I was noticing on your log that you had two ways you refered to your salts. Is the pHour salts and the sodium bicarbonate the same thing? If different what is the pHour salt?

My Answer:   Hi Jerine, They are two different things. pHour salts is made up of 4 salts, namely sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, magnesium bicarbonate, and calcium bicarbonate. I use mostly pHour salts, but from time to time I use only sodium bicarbonate, which is as effective. My best, Nick

"How are you?" by DeAnna on 2008-04-21 11:10:36

Question:  Hi! I was wondering how you are doing, recent test results and such? I am also a cancer survivor and am thinking about following the same lifestyle, Ph and supplements. Blessing~

My Answer:   Hi DeAnna, I am doing well, thanks for asking. My most recent blood analyses (with Dr Young) were excellent. You can download the latest report from the bottom of the home page. I feel better than I have in many years, my energy levels are extremely high, and I have virtually none of the bladder-related symptoms I had before. The last MRI I had in January showed the presence of a small tumor in my bladder; however, this does not concern me, since I know that the pupose of a tumor is to encapsulate spoiling cells to protect the healthy cells around them. When the tumor has done its job, it will crystallize, break down, and be eliminated. I do no plan to go for any more medical related tests, because I will - under no circumstances - have radical surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy. I will heal myself naturally, no matter how long it takes. My body knows how to heal itself, if I support it. My best, Nick

"Bicarbonate pills" by Diana on 2008-04-20 17:27:58

Question:  We are doing the same thing with my mom. 2 1/2 years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer that a year later metastesized to her lungs. In September she was given a few weeks to live she started on a new chemo and we started her on a very aggressive holistic protocol, much of it based around pH/alkalinity, oxygenation, building your immune system and detoxification. She stopped chemo two months ago and continues to get better. Where do you get the Bicarbonate pills? Diana

My Answer:   Hi Diana, I'm glad your mom is getting better. Well done! I don't take sodium bicarbonate pills - I dilute powder in water. If my log states pills somewhere, it must be a typing error. I think pills would be a great idea, actually... My best, Nick

"Maple Syrup and Baking Soda" by Dan on 2008-04-20 17:21:32

Question:  What do you think of the maple syrup and baking soda treatment. What do you think about zeolite to increase PH as they claim, and remove metals - I have a ton of metals around my cells(brown) from amalgams probably. Also, I have never heard anything good with a person using the riffe machine, have you? Thanks

My Answer:   Hi Dan, Maple syrup is highly acidic - I wouldn't experiment with it. Baking soda is highly alkaline and I take it every day. I have also heard of people being cured of cancer through the use of doctor-administered intravenous sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). I haven't researched or experimented with zeolite. I used to have lots of metals in my blood and it all cleared up (see my latest blood analysis report) as a result of the alkaline diet I'm on. I have not heard any success stories concerning the use of the riffe machine. My best, Nick

"Weight Gain" by Ray on 2008-04-20 12:22:09

Question:  Nick, I have finished my Chemo 1 year ago but I don't see to be able to stop weight gain. I was on steriods (prednesone), for 6 months and I can't seem to get control of my weight gain. I have put on another 10 lbs since I stopped the chemical treatment. Do you have any suggestions for me such as accupuncture to curb cravings, etc. Thanks, Ray

My Answer:   Hi Ray, I hear this from many, many people... I'm not sure how much you've read about Dr Young's work; however, alkalizing your body fluids and tissues will enable you to lose weight. Here's a quick summary of Dr Young's COWS program, which has helped me and many people I know lose weight, even after chemotherapy... “C” stands for chlorophyll, which is found in green vegetables and fruits. Make sure that with every meal, you eat mostly green stuff, especially leafy greens. Salad leaves, avocado, green peppers, cucumbers, spinach, broccoli, etc are all good. So, if you must eat acidifying food (it's obviously best that you don't), make sure you order a large salad as a starter, with some vegetables with your food. 75% of your meal should be chlorophyll-rich. “O” stands for oil. Go to a health store and get hemp seed oil, flax oil, and Omega 3-6-9 capsules. Put the first 2 oils in your salad dressing and on your vegetables. Use lots of it. Take the maximum dosage of Omega capsules, as the label states. O also stands for oxygen. Make sure you exercise, if it's just walking, as much as possible every day. “W” stands for water. Try drink a few litres of water every day. If possible, drink alkaline water with a pH of over 9.5. “S” stands for salt. Use sea salt generously on your food (make sure it's pure sea or rock salt - unprocessed). Also get sodium bicarbonate and put a teaspoon in a glass of water 2 to 3 times per day and drink it. S also stands for Sunshine. Try get at least 30 minutes of unprotected Sunshine every day. Obviously, you need to try and cut down on all acdifying foods - animal products, sugar, baked goods, sweet fruits, alcohol, vinegar, and so on. This is a very, very basic introductio to the program. If you do all this, I assure you the weight will start to fall off. If you can do the above easily and want to take it further, let me know and I'll give you some more suggestions to take it to the next level. I hope this helps you with your weight loss (and return to health). Good luck! Nick

"Water" by Sherri on 2008-04-15 18:19:09

Question:  Hi Nick- Great web site and info! I'm 54 years old. I don't have cancer, but have irritable bowel syndrome, degenerative disc disease and some other possibly hormone related soft tissue problems. I've been transitioning to an alkaline diet for about 10 months. I'm considering purchasing a water ionizer and wondered if you use one, or what type of water you use. What pH is your water before you add drops? Thanks and best to you! Sherri

My Answer:   Thank you, Sherri! I don't have an ionizer yet, but do plan to get one soon. I use Essentia water (http://www.essentiawater.com/), which has a pH of 9.5 before pH drops are added. My best, Nick

"Supplements" by Cheryl on 2008-04-14 16:16:59

Question:  Hi Nick, You are taking all of these supplements at the same time: 10:45:00 supplements 1.50 teaspoon Green drink 10:45:00 supplements 1.00 teaspoon pHour Salts 10:45:00 supplements 1.50 teaspoon Montmorillonite Clay Do you mix them into a glass of water and take them together? You have been doing this for quit a long time. Do you feel that you are now free of cancer? How will you know? I have breast cancer, and although I have been on a raw diet, and taking many supplements that should be curing me, including PHour Salts (not as much as you), and lots of alkaline, green water, juicing, and hemp, flax, and krill oil, I know that I am getting worse. I am surprised, and trying to figure out what to do next.

My Answer:   Hi Cheryl, Yes, I find it more convenient to have a couple of supplement sessions a day (except for pHour Salts, which I have throughout the day). I don't mix the pHour salts in with the clay and green drink. I drink that in a glass of water first. I believe that my body is healing itself and that I am supporting it. I know I have a tumor in my bladder, but I believe that tumors are not bad. They are the body's way of encapsulating spoiling cells, to protect healthy cells. In time, with the proper support, the tumor will crystallize, break down, and be eliminated. The reason I know I'm getting better is that I feel better than I ever have, my recent live blood analysis looked great, and I have no symptoms. It's taken me years / decades to get myself unhealthy and I don't expect to become healthy overnight. It is a journey. In fact, I believe it is the only path to health. Medicine only offers me symptom management, not a true cure. How do you know you're getting worse? What exactly are you eating? Are you sure you're not eating or drinking anything you shouldn't be? Are you enjoying your meals? Are you getting some exercise, fresh air, and sunlight? Do you have faith that you are being healed? Are you laughing a lot and staying happy most of the time, or are you stressed? My best, Nick

"pH strips" by Hilda on 2008-04-10 11:10:35

Question:  Is there a more accurate method of testing the pH of urine and saliva? thanks

My Answer:   Yes, there is Hilda. I use a Hanna digtal pH meter. You can find it at... http://www.cutcat.com/item.php?item_id=274

"Can we use PHour Salts in the Cleanse" by Carlos on 2008-04-07 15:42:43

Question:  Dear Nick, I'm about to start Dr. Young's 12 day cleanse and was wondering if I should add the PHour salts to the process. I ask this because this product came out after the "Ph Miracle for Weigh Loss" book was published and am not sure if it would help with the detox.

My Answer:   Hi Carlos, I would definitely take the pHour salts. If you don't want to spend money on it, sodium bicarbonate (that has no other ingredients) will work almost as well. Good luck, Nick

"What have pH drops done for you?" by Barbara on 2008-04-05 18:13:26

Question:  Dear Nick, I have one question which I would like you to answer and it has to do with water. How much do you drink and what do you notice about your physical self since you have added the ph drops? Barbara

My Answer:   Hi Barbara, Since using the pH drops, I feel that my thirst is quenched better when I drink water. It has also increased my pH a little, which has obvious health benefits. My best, Nick

"How long until healthy blood?" by Marie on 2008-04-05 18:00:27

Question:  How long have you been on the alkaline diet, to go from an acidy blood analysis to a healthy, alkaline state? thanks and congratulations! marie

My Answer:   Hi Marie, It actually took about 7-8 months... I became despondent at one point; but, through perseverance, my blood improved dramatically over the last few months. Take care, Nick

"Questions about bladder cancer" by Jack on 2008-03-27 12:02:22

Question:  Hi, I am glad to visit your website and touched by your story because i am inthe same boat with you. i lived in Thailand and I am diagnosed with muscle invasive bladder stage 2b grade 3. My uro also suggested radical cystecprostectomy like you and decided against it after careful thought and against my family wishes. I refused and trying to cure my cancer on my own like you. I had Turbt only 1 half month ago. i am single male 49 years old, vegetarian never smoke or drink and is physically fit. i would like to know from you following:- 1.After your Turbt how long it took your bladder to heal and how long its been since your last Turbt. 2. Did you do a ct scan or mri to see the progress of your treatment. 3. Did you experience painful and frequent urination after Turbt. if so how did you solve this problem and how long it took you to solve this problem. this is my majoe problem rightnow and hope you can guide me to solve this problem. thanks and best regards and hope to hear from you soon inorder to motivate us. Jack

My Answer:   Hi Jack, Thanks for your email. In answer to your questions... 1) I have had the TURBT procedure a few times. It took anywhere for 4-8 weeks for my bladder to return to normal each time. My last one was in June 2007. I took a decision not to have any more invasive medical procedures. 2) I did some scans in January 2008, without any contrast dye. The scan did show that there was a tumour in my bladder. However, I believe that tumours are not necessarily bad. Their purpose is to encapsulate "spoiling" cells to protect the good cells. I believe that if I support my body (by maintaining high tissue and fluid pH levels), the tumour will eventually do its job, crystallize, break down, and be eliminated. 3) I did experience painful and, sometimes, frequent urination after each TURBT. I found that the last procedure I had in June last year wasn't so bad, because I was already on the pH Miracle program. I especially found the pHour salts (or simple sodium bicarbonate) helpful. Dilute a teaspoon in glass of water and drink it a few times a day. I don't know how familiar you are with Dr Young's program (The pH Miracle). I suggest you get some books soon and visit Dr Young's sites (http://www.articlesofhealth.blogspot.com/ and http://www.phmiracleliving.com/). If you would like for me to send you a summary of the program, let me know. I believe you'll find it very helpful. Being vegetarian is a great start, but that's not enough. You need to give up everything that's acidic and dramatically increase your intake of (mostly raw) alkalizing foods, primarily dark leafy green vegetables, green fruit, etc. I'll elaborate if you need me to. I wish you the very best in reclaiming your health. My best, Nick

My Answer:   Thanks for contacting me, Sharon. Good luck with the program and your health issues. To find practitioners in Salt Lake City, I suggest you call Dr Young's office (760.751.8321) and ask them for a list of qualified microscopists in your area.

"Cancer advice" by Helen Sigler on 2008-03-13 14:25:05

Question:  I have Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and the doctor said she has done all she can for me and sent me to another doctor who wanted me to try the Baxaar Treatment. I didn't want to do it so i didn't and am now on my own and they wanted to call in hospice but i don't need Hospice at this time i am still up and around. Can you suggest anything for me to do?

My Answer:   Hi Helen, I'm sorry to hear about your health challenges. It sounds like modern medicine has done all they can for you. If I were in your shoes, I would do exactly what I'm doing now... In my case, after about a year of working only with doctors, I decided to go the natural route, because the doctors were not getting any results. It made sense to me that my body knew how to heal itself if I supported it, ate the right food, exercised, removed stress from my life, and so on. My health is perfect at the moment, but it’s going to take many years to be 100% healthy, because I’ve spent decades ruining my health! The program I am on basically involves increasing the pH of my body fluids and tissues to 8, or higher, at which point cancerous cells cannot survive. To achieve this, I follow what Dr Young calls the “COWS” program... C stands for chlorophyll, which is obtained from eating raw, dark, leafy green vegetables (as in salads – spinach, kale, and also broccoli, sprouts, etc). You can also get chlorophyll from supplements, such as green drinks, wheat grass, or buy taking liquid chlorophyll. When you’re healing mode, you need to eat over 90% greens and try juice as much of it as possible. This means: no meat, no dairy, no alcohol, no vinegar, no bread, no pasta, no potatoes, no rice, no sugar, very little fruit (select fruits only), etc, etc. You can have other vegetables, but the biggest percentage of your food must be dark leafy greens. O means oils and oxygen. Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils are the ones you need to take. The best way to get the oil you need in the right proportions is to buy hemp seed oil (keep it in a dark, cool place), flax oil, fish oil, and mix it with olive oil and lemon, and use it as dressing for your salad. You need to eat lots of oil. Fatty vegetables, like avocado, are also good. Avoid cooking with oil. When you do, mix the oil with water and try cook the cook as little as possible. For oxygen, make sure you move every day. You don’t have to run, or anything like that. Walking for 30-60 minutes per day is enough. W means water. This is very important. You need to drink 1 litre of water for every 30-40 pounds (13.6 to 18.2 Kg) of weight, per day. I weigh 84 Kg and I drink about 5 to 6 litres of water every day. Drinking large amounts of water like this helps your body flush out acids / toxins that compromise your internal environment. Water and herbal teas are about the only things you should drink. It would be ideal to buy a water ionizer, which increases the alkalinity of the water. S means salt. It’s important to eat and drink a lot of salt. You should buy natural sea salt (don’t use processed or iodized table salt) and put lots of salt on your food. In addition to that, buy some pure food-grade sodium bicarbonate, mix a teaspoon with water, and drink it. You might need to get used to taking sodium bicarbonate, so start with ½ teaspoon 3 times per day and work your way up to 1 teaspoon, 5-6 times per day. This will increase your pH. There are some doctors having success with intravenous sodium bicarbonate. If you want some details about this, please let me know. The only reason some cells in your body are becoming cancerous is because they are bathed in acids, are deprived of oxygen, are being “attacked” by free radicals, and a few other reasons. I believe that if you increase your fluid pH to over 8 for most of the day and do everything I mentioned above, you will oxygenate, alkalize, and energize your body and the cancer should start being reversed. This is the premise that Dr Young’s work is based on. If you like, I can give you the names of books to read and websites to research. One thing you should start doing right away is measuring your urine pH a few times per day. You can do this by buying pH strips from a pharmacy or health store (or online, if you don’t find them). You should measure your urine pH first thing in the morning. It should always be over 7.2 in the morning. If it’s not, you need to do more of the above. By 2-3pm in the afternoon, your pH should be over 8. If it’s not, do more of the above. I personally chose the 100% natural route. When I go for MRI, or CT scans, I don’t even let them inject contrast dyes in me. I don’t let the doctors put anything unnatural in my system. I feel better than I have in decades. I know that’s a lot of information for you to digest right away, Helen. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can give you some websites to research. Good luck! Nick

"pHour & Sodium Bicarb" by James on 2008-03-01 23:42:17

Question:  Hi Nick, I notice you are taking a combination of the 2 products these days. May I ask the reason for this? Thanks.

My Answer:   Hi James, No special reason... I had run out of pHour salts and, until my order arrived, I bought some sodium bicarbonate. Although I've received my shipment of pHour salts, I'm just trying t finish my supply of sodium bicarbonate. By the way, I had my blood tested by Dr Young the other day. It's looking great! The live blood pictures look almost as good as the pictures in Dr Young's book. I'll email you a picture separately, but the report will be online soon. My best, Nick

"Remission from lymphoma" by Ray on 2008-01-31 20:52:10

Question:  Nick, I am in remission from Lymphoma and am on Super Greens and Ph drops daily and trying to eat more greens. Your daily log is too dificult for me to follow exactily but I'm going to try to add the clay and pHour salts as well. I have to run my business full time and I have 4 kids to support. Do you have any advise for me in this situation? Hope you are well. Ray

My Answer:   Hi Ray, I can appreciate your situation. Initially, it does take quite a bit of time to figure out what you can and can't eat, as well as what supplements to take. It gets easier and easier, both from a planning and motivation standpoint. It's second nature to me now. Based on my experience, I would say that by far the most important supplement for you to add is the pHour salts. This will raise your pH quickly, which is exactly what you want. I've read a lot of literature and Dr Young has concurred that keeping the tissue pH over 8 causes the cancer cells to "die". Are you keeping track of your urine pH? I find that measuring this a few times a day keeps me motivated and gives me the feedback I need to know if I'm eating and drinking the right things. Also, if it dips below the high 7s, I take extra pHour salts to push it close to or over 8. The clay is good. I mix some every night into a paste and have a few teaspoons during the day. I was told not to mix it with my supplements. When I first did it, I think the paste was too thick and I couldn't eat it. Experiment by adding different levels of water until you get it where it tastes good to you. Are you drinking alkaline water? I know you're adding drops to the water, but are you starting out with a high pH (9.5+), electron-rich water. If you check Dr Young's website, you will find lots of information on this. Ideally, you want to get an ionizer to prepare this water yourself (much cheaper). As for diet, I'll try and simplify it for you. I eat 75% raw and 25% cooked. The cooked is either steamed or stir-fried (with very little oil), but never fried. I eat 75% alkaline veg and fruit and 25% beans, healthy nuts, and one of the healthy fish (tuna, mackerel, salmon, sea bass, etc). I eat nothing from a packet or tin. There are many websites and books that tell you the pH of foods. One that I like is http://www.ph-balance-diet.com/phoffoods.htm. If you have questions about specific foods, drinks, oils, nuts, fish, and so, please ask me, because I've probably asked Dr Young and some nutritional microscopists about it. I hope that helps. The best advice I can give you is not to stress about doing this 100% right from day one. The negative effects of that stress will outweigh the benefits of whatever you're doing. You'll slowly but surely get better and better at this. Your pH will tell you if you're doing it right or wrong. Hope that helps, Nick

"Mistletoe extract & BE" by Jane on 2008-01-24 20:30:03

Question:  Dear Nick, Just wanted to add my support. It is brave of you to take a leap of faith, and go against the advice of allopathic 'experts' (and often their drug company-funded university research fellowship backgrounds). I am a lot older than you, but in a similar position, having a different, rare cancer, but with, eventually, perhaps the same prognosis. I haven't read all your site info yet, but whilst absolutely agreeing with your choice of an alkilinity regime, also wonder if you have come across either of the following additional 'alternative' therapies 1. Viscum treatment. It is mistletoe extract, injected subcutaneously, that boosts the immune system. Scientist Rudolph Steiner formulated this treatment within his anthroposophical philosophy, though it has been used in cancer treatment for generations. This probably came about because when mistletoe parasites a sick tree, the tree's immune system is challenged, and the tree usually recovers! It is used extensively in Germany and Switzerland as an adjunct cancer treatment, and technically available in the UK on the NHS. In Dec 2007, I went as an in-patient to a Rudolph Steiner clinic in Worcester, received several treatments, and had very satisfactory responses. Each treatment induces high fever, thereby 'ratcheting' up the immune system to a higher-powered performance. I maintain this level at home by twice weekly injections. 2. Have you heard of Body Electronics (B.E.) and 'point holding'? Generally, B.E. comprises very similar principles to those of Dr Young's. It is a tripartite regime of alkaline diet, simple, positive spirituality, and thirdly - interestingly - 'point holding' , where pressure is applied to pre determined points on someone, in order to release locked-in emotional stress which has 'converted' to disease. The point holder applies sustained pressure that may last for 2-4 hours at a stretch. At the same time, prompted by sensitive dialogue, the patient may eventually experience a healing crisis, and subsequent change of tissue structure. When undergoing a session, after two hours of pressure being applied, and honing in on some deeply buried negativity, I experienced a very curious sensation of what felt like a very cold, round ball travelling slowly up from the general site of my tumours (in the pelvis), up along the side of my body, and eventually out from my mouth like a conjuror's egg! It wasn't wind, wasn't trapped air, or anything like that, and was an extremely weird occurrence! Since that experience, I have (quite separately) undergone the Viscum treatment, and now awaiting a CT scan before having to decide whether to undergo chemotherapy (which has a low success rate with the cancer I am hosting). I just wonder if I will be as brave as you when the time comes to make that decision! Anyway, if either of these treatments interests you, further info about Viscum can be found at Park Attwood's web site, www.parkattwood.org, and my contact re Body Electronics is Peter Hinde, PhD (in Nuclear Energy). You are better 'Googling' Peter's site, it's easier! I think you are a very fine and courageous person and offer my own support and prayers in your continued fight towards success! Best wishes Jane

My Answer:   Hi Jane, Thanks very much for your email and support. I wish you health and I am certain you will make the decisions that are right for you. I used to research new alternative treatments all the time, but do so less often now, for various reasons, including... 1) Firstly, there are so many contradictory viewpoints, each with impressive and convincing evidence. I started to get overwhelmed trying to figure out how it all fits together. I decided that, for right or for wrong, I was going to subscribe to Dr Young’s philosophy completely and spend less time looking for new answers. I just feel that he has the answers and everything seems to make sense and, oftentimes, even explains why other methods (often unwittingly) work. 2) Having read quite a bit about the Law of Attraction in books like The Secret, I believe that reading, researching, or thinking too much about the things we don’t want (in our case, cancer), we manifest more of it. I, therefore, read less and less about cancer treatments (alternative or otherwise). I focus on reading about health, fitness, happiness, and so on, which I believe will lead to the ultimate cure. I am meeting Dr Young in February and I have a list of questions for him. I will ask him about the mistletoe extract and BE. Thanks, again, for sending me the information. Again, thank you for taking the time to write to me. I believe you will make the right decisions, which will eventually lead to health :-). My best, Nick

"Dr Young meeting" by Kent on 2008-01-22 11:17:23

Question:  Nick, Thought you might find this interesting. I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and I meet with Dr young for a 10 min telephone meeting. His priorities for me were: 1. exercise for circulation - he thought this was very important 2. he preferred liquid chlorophyll over supergreens - this one I found interesting. liquid chlorophyll increase oxygen throughout body. 3. all raw except fish, almond milk ok 4. specifically said no rice, beans, sprouted grain bread. he didnt mention buckwheat or quinoa (sp?) 5. eat as much sodium chloride as I wanted (phlavor or celtic) - he said I was salt deficient 6. take 4 salts and drink 5 liters a day 7. juicing - alkaline veggies I've been doing this for 2 weeks now and so far so good. My urine is usually around 7.3 and varies below and above. Let me know if you have any comments or questions about above. Regards, Kent

My Answer:   Hi Kent, Thanks for your email. I don't doubt Dr Young for a minute. I believe what he told you makes sense. Here are my comments on each suggestion (as it relates to what I'm doing)... 1) I do 90 minutes of yoga twice a week and I walk briskly very often. I plan to get back into tennis and cycling very soon, both of which I love. 2) He has also told me to take liquid chlorophyll. I have been struggling to find a good quality, cheap source. If I had to take the amount Dr Young told me to take, it would cost me upward of $500 per month, which I can't afford right now, on top of everything else I'm doing. 3) I eat around 70% of my food raw. Another 20% is lightly steamed vegetables. Fish and beans are about the only thing I cook (once a week each). Did Dr Young say how much (good) fish you could eat? I recently had a traditional blood test done and my protein levels are quite low. I guess I should eat more fish. 4) I occasionally have steamed basmati or brown rice. I used to eat sprouted grain bread, but I stopped a few weeks ago. I find that I don’t need bread, which is great. I’m surprised that he said no beans. Did he say why? Quite a few beans are very healthy and they are a real treat for me. When I start to lose motivation, beans or fish are a real treat for me and keep me going. 5) I don’t think he’ll find me to be salt deficient. I have loads of sea salt. 6) I take lots of sodium bicarbonate and drink lots of good water, as you can see from my logs. 7) I only juice a couple of times a week. I plan to do this more and more. I notice a jump in my pH when I drink fresh juices of alkaline vegetables. I look forward to your answers on the above, if you have any. I am meeting Dr Young late February and plan to ask lots of questions, including some relating to the above. My best, Nick

"activator" by marie on 2008-01-11 05:35:25

Question:  What is this activator you are taking? thanks.

My Answer:   Hi Marie. Activator is just another name for the pH drops one adds to water to alkalize it. My best, Nick.

"Portion Control" by Stuart on 2008-01-06 13:18:30

Question:  hi. ben watching yuor site for a while. How did you manage with portion control in the beginning when you l the weight loss? I'm 112kg and need to be 80kg - but always find hunger the killer - even on 2 previous ph miracle diet attempts..... any tricks?

My Answer:   Hi Stuart. The pH Miracle program has very little to do with portion control. If you eat mostly alkaline rich foods and keep your urine pH high (over 8, if possible), you can eat as much as you need to, to get full. The fat will melt away if you increase your pH, as your body no longer needs to hold onto it to store acids away from vital organs. Exercise is also very important, for many reasons. As you get healthier and fitter, you'll find that you won't crave huge portions of food. Hope that helps. My best, Nick

"Sodium Bicarb" by James on 2008-01-02 08:39:07

Question:  Hi Nick, I notice you've swapped from pHour salts to Sodium Bicarbonate. Have you simply run out of the pHour salts or is there another reason? Thanks.

My Answer:   Hi James. I've run out of pHour salts and have decided to take sodium bicarbonate instead. Unfortunately, the cost of adopting this lifestyle, taking the summplements, and so on, can sometimes become more than I can afford...

"health screenings?" by Cindy on 2007-12-18 10:15:36

Question:  Hi Nick. I was just wondering when you plan to do another cancer screening, and also, you mentioned having done a live blood analysis in early December - I'm curious to know how it compares to your prior. Will you be uploading soon? Take care, Cindy

My Answer:   Hi Cindy, I had MRI without contrast dye recently, as well as numerous other non-invasive tests. I am waiting for the results. I will post them to the site soon. I have made a decision not to allow the doctors to conduct any invasive tests, since this reverses many of the benefits that my diet provide. I had live blood analysis done recently. I am waiting for the report, which I will post to the site soon. My best, Nick

"supplements" by marie on 2007-12-18 06:38:49

Question:  You stopped many of the extra supplements for a time, and now you've added other ones. what prompted this? also, is the phlush bowel cleanser a new product? thanks

My Answer:   Hi Marie. I stopped the supplements, because I spoke to my nutritional microscopist about the fact that I had what I call "supplement overwhelm". I got tired of having to take all the supplements all the time, if you know what I mean. My nutritionist believes (as I have for years) that you should be able to get all your nutrients from whole food, the way nature intended. I was in the process of getting off the supplements, when I had a discussion with Dr Young. He convinced me to take the current supplements. The pHlush bowel cleanser is from The pH Miracle Center. To be honest, I'm not sure if the product is new. I suggest you call them to find out. My best, Nick.

"What's happening to Nick?" by Andrew on 2007-12-10 12:58:10

Question:  After 4 months+ on the diet how much fitter do you feel, how much more energy do you have, how regular are you, what exercises do you do, what environment do you live in - home, wife, children, solo, do you work, how do you spend your day, are you rural or urban, are you miserable, gloomy, stoical, excited, happy, optimistic, content with your diet or craving a wider variety, in pain or totally free of symptoms, clear-headed, mentally alert, good eyesight, hearing, taste, free of financial stresses, has Dr Young made a new man of you or are you conforming only until your cancer evaporates....

My Answer:   Andrew, thanks for your question. I feel much fitter and stronger. I have lots of energy, although I do have detox symptoms, occasionally. I suspect this is due to the fact that I am still losing weight and sometimes acid from the fat cells makes its way into the blood to be eliminated. This is also why my live blood analysis results aren’t perfect (the latest report will be uploaded soon). I live in Ireland in a small town with my wife and two beautiful children, surrounded by farms and lots of green. I would describe myself as excited, grateful, and positive. I do become pensive at times, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I am unhappy or down. I do occasionally crave some of the foods I used to eat, but it’s more of a mental than physiological craving. As for symptoms, other than the episodic detox symptoms, I am totally free of them. I feel very healthy. I am healthy. I plan to live this way for the rest of my life. When I’m totally healthy, I’ll probably relax on the supplements and get as much as I can from whole foods and eat slightly more cooked food.

"Supplements" by Ray on 2007-11-26 09:17:21

Question:  How do I find out more about some of the tea's and supplements your taking? I just finished 6 month treatment for Lymphoma Cancer. I'm finished with Chemo and want to prevent a reoccurance. i.e. Montmorillonite Clay pHour Salts Fennel Tea Rooisbos Tea Chamomile Tea Soy Sprout Powder How do I find out more about these and where do I get them? Regards, Ray

My Answer:   Hi Ray. Thanks for writing to me. Firstly, are you on the pH Miracle eating program? If not, I highly recommend you read the book and follow the diet as best you can. You can find a link to it on the "books" page of my website (http://www.stopdoingcancer.com/books-p.htm). You can get all the teas (and more) at all health shops and many supermarkets. The pHour salts are available at Dr Young's website (http://www.phmiracleliving.com/), as is the clay and other products you might need. Let me know if you need more help. Also, feel free to use our discussions pages to get advice from other people on this program (http://www.stopdoingcancer.com/board/viewforum.php?f=3) and who might have been through what you've gone through. I wish you health! Regards, Nick

"Week 4 thru Week 12 of Alkaline Eating" by Mark on 2007-11-18 10:11:03

Question:  I started alkaline eating on Aug 1 and I weighed 349. I am 41 & 6'4". I lost ~ 45 lbs to date and now on a plateau. I own a vita mix, alkaline water machine, a dehydrator. I just bought a Green Star 2000 juicer and a sprouter, which I haven't used yet. My question is I was okay for first 21 days, but week 4 - 12 I missed the mark, what should I be eating? Dr Young's books are not clear for this time period. I think I am eating too much protein and carbs. I usually eat a bowl of quinoa & soy unsweetened for breakfast. I bought the juicer, so I could switch to drinking juice at the start of every day for breakfast. For lunch I eat 5-8 oz kale with salad dressing (olive oil, liq. aminos, lemon juice, & herbs) plus cooked red pinto beans (refried beans) in a sprout tortilla with kale and salad dressing. For dinner is usually the same as lunch, but it could be a soy burger and a sprouted bun. I was drinking 5-7 quarts of liq. greens (greenshield - alkavision.com), not enough I should have had about 11-12 quarts, I just couldn't do it. About 12 days ago I started to take pHour Salts, which kept me at pH 8 in the morning for my urine and about a 7.2 for saliva. What I am thinking of doing is to take green juice for breakfast, kale salad for lunch and some form of vegetables for dinner. I will eat fish, soy burger or refried beans no more than twice a week. I was taking hemp oil but I quit. I do cook with tropical traditions coconut oil ($66.50 a gal). Do you think if I increase my liq. greens to 9-10 quarts a day; take pHours twice a day and follow the juice, salad and vegetable plan this would be okay. I feel like I am on a maintenance plan as opposed to a get rid of acid plan, I think thats due to eating to many carbs & proteins. All thoughts and insights will be welcomed. Thanks, Mark

My Answer:   Hi Mark, If you haven't done a liquid cleanse yet, you should definitely do that for at least a week, if you can. If you have done a cleanse and ate mostly raw at the beginning, you should be on a maintenance plan. Don't stress too much about whether you're doing it right. If your pH levels are good and you're losing weight, you're doing it right. My advice is to eat 70% to 80% highly alkalizing foods (mostly fruit and veg - see http://www.ph-balance-diet.com/phoffoods.htm for pH levels of foods). The beans, soy burgers, etc, are fine, as long as 70% to 80% of everything you eat in any given day is dark, green, and leafy. Also, try eat 60% - 70% (or more, if you can) raw food. Salads, smoothies, and juices are a great way to achieve this. If you haven't already, check out Shelley's recipes books (see my books page). I think 5 quarts of liquid greens is more than enough. 4 would even be enough. Make sure you drink lots of high pH, electron rich water (4+ quarts per day, in addition to the green drinks). What you're thinking of doing sounds fine, in addition to what I mentioned above. As long as your pH levels are high and you're losing weight, you're doing the right things. The fact that your weight has plateaued means you need to be doing more of the above and what you're planning to do. When you reach your ideal weight, I suggest you find a microscopist in your area and have live blood analysis done. Don't stress about whether you're doing it 100% perfectly. Just follow the pH and weight. Good luck! Nick

"No time to Juice" by James on 2007-11-12 10:17:09

Question:  Hi Nick, I've just read what you wrote about your day being so packed you don't have time to make juice. I know you have the food & supplements sorted but what about relaxing, having fun, eliminating stress/frustration and other negative emotions, enjoying life, promoting positive thoughts and feelings etc ? From what I've read of Dr Young's work, he perceives this as an important. If you are rushed and stressed, could that be why you aren't seeing the rise in pH and weight loss you expect ? James

My Answer:   Hi James, What you say rings very true for me. I do believe that I still have work to do on the emotional, mental, and - for that matter - the spiritual aspects of healing. There have been days when I just feel great emotionally and my pH is very high. Sometimes, I eat something that's not strictly in accordance with the program (like more fish than I should eat) - that I thoroughly enjoy - and my pH goes through the roof. I guess that can only be explained by the fact that the positive emotion of eating the food outweighs the nagative effects. Another very interesting example is my wife... She drinks (socially), smokes, eats lots of chocolate, and pretty much eats whatever she wants, except when it's my turn to cook and she has to eat all the healthy stuff I make. However, she is an extremely vibrant, alive, and super-happy person. I recently challenged her to measure her urine pH and it was in the high 7's!!! I think we all (including Dr Young) have a great deal to learn about the alkaline approach to health. Regards, Nick

"juicing" by Cindy on 2007-11-06 15:05:54

Question:  Hi Nick. I noticed that you don't juice as far as I can tell. Isn't that a dietary foundation for alkalizing? Fresh green drinks a few times a day? I see that you do have the powder greens. Is that sufficient though?

My Answer:   Hi Cindy. You're absolutely right. I do own a really nice, heavy duty juicer and, at one point, I did juice often. The reason I don't do it as often as I should is that there just aren't enough hours in the day, especially given the time it takes to disassemble the juicer, clean it, and reassemble it. I know I should make the time and I definitely will (it's a goal of mine). My mornings, especially, are so packed that it's quicker and easier for me to just grab a cucumber, or something. Thanks for reminding me. I'm going to start forcing myself to have at least one juice per day!! All the best, Nick.

"pH levels" by Pedro on 2007-11-04 01:42:19

Question:  Hi Nick, Have noticed that your pH levels have been low for the past couple of days, maybe a bit more than a week. Any situation?? Have you consulted your Microcospist?? Or Dr. Young?? On why this situation?? Causes?? Best of luck. Cheers.

My Answer:   Hi Pedro. The reason for this is that my digital pH meter became decalibrated :-/. The pH levels shown now are the correct ones... I'm trying to get my urine pH over 8 again. I have always struggled with my saliva pH and I think this has something to do with the fact that I had one of my parotid (saliva) glands removed in the 90's. The urine pH is the most important, as it gives a good indication of the pH of my internal fluids and tissues. If I can keep that above 8, I will be very happy. Take care, Nick.

"a few questions" by Cindy on 2007-11-02 11:15:58

Question:  Hi. I stumbled across your website as I've been doing a lot of research on Dr. Young's theories (my husband was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer a few months ago at age 38). First, will you continue to have live blood analyses every 6 to 8 weeks? It looks like you haven't had one in close to 4 months. I'm curious to see whether there is a change. Also, how do you fight cravings for sugar, etc. My husband had a very poor diet for years and while he's incorporated a lot of positive changes these last few months, I've found Dr. Young's diet to be rather extreme in terms of cutting out fruit and grains and quite difficult to follow, even for me who is an avid health enthusiast. Any advice in that regard? All the best. Keep fighting the fight. So far, my husband has gone the conventional route but I am trying to bring him along with dietary and lifestyle changes simultaneously.

My Answer:   Hi Cindy. Thanks for your questions. I am sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis. There is hope, so keep the faith. In answer to your question, I am having live blood analysis done later this month, although I've been advised to lose more weight first, since toxins/acids are thrown off into the blood during the weight loss process. In answer to your question about sugar cravings... Firstly, there are quite a few fruits you can eat on this program, including grapefruit, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, coconut, and pomegranate. Secondly, when I really, really feel like something sweet, I toast a slice or two of organic sprouted spelt bread (with no other ingredients at all) and spread half a teaspoon of organic, naturally sweetened blueberry jam. That does the trick for me. Dr Young's diet is extreme, I agree. Although I followed it to the letter initially (which did me a lot of good), I do have a few things that I probably shouldn't have. However, I do them in moderation, usually accompany them with a large raw salad, and take extra pHour Salts if I see a drop in my pH. My "not too unhealthy vices" include... the spelt toast and natural blueberry jam, fish once a week, legumes at least once or twice a week, and organic spelt pasta (with no other ingredients) once or twice a month - my family can't tell the difference when I cook it for them. The bottom line is the pH. I asked Dr Young if "it's all in the pH" and he said yes. Have your husband experiment with eating different foods and see how it impacts on his urine pH. If a specific food does not drop his pH levels (fish actually increase mine, for some strange reason), then let him continue eating it. In my opinion, the most important things to not compromise on are: some of the supplements (especially the pHour Salts or Sodium Bicarbonate and green drink), lots of alkaline water, and at least 60% to 70% raw salads. I hope this has helped a little. Feel free to write to me again if you have more questions, or just to share with me. All the best, Nick

"blessed herb colon cleanse" by marie on 2007-10-29 12:47:50

Question:  How did you find the Blessed Herb products, and does the colon cleanse really work like their web page indicates (illustrates)?

My Answer:   It seems to be working quite well. There seems to be more coming out than going in... I haven't had the dramatic results shown in their images, but I'm not doing the intense program.

"Supplements" by Paula on 2007-10-22 18:14:28

Question:  Hola Nick! (translation: Hi Nick) Would you be so kind as to answer a few of my questions regarding supplements? Besides what is posted on your blog do you take any additional supplements? What brand is the vitamin/mineral supplement that you currently take ? There are so many on the market. Lastly, are canned beans Ok to eat? I always check your blog, it's really motivating and so inspirational. I thank you for your time! Paula

My Answer:   Hola Paula! I only take the supplements mentioned in my blog. I will start taking a soy sprout powder soon. I am also going to be using the Blessed Herbs to do a bowel cleanse. The brand of the multiple vitamin-mineral I take is Viridian. Anything canned is not good, including beans. Where possible, I use organic, natural, unprocessed, unpacked products. Thanks for your support and go
